2017 Convocation

"Reconciliation: The Reformation Continues"
Speaker: Kathryn Mary Lohre
 Monday - Tuesday, October 9-10

Abbey Resort
Delavan, WI

In II Corinthians 5:18-19, Paul reminds us that everything new “is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” As we look back on 500 years of division and 50+ years of dialogue, we can see that our calling is one of healing, or reconciling, divisions – within the body of Christ, and in a broken world. Building upon what Bishop Froiland has referred to as “the other Great Commission,” our ministries of reconciliation will be essential for our witness to Christ as part of the ongoing Reformation. Kathryn Lohre will provide an overview of the past 500 years from an ecumenical and inter-religious perspective, and explore more deeply three sets of relations that are key to our ministries of reconciliation as ELCA: our relations with Catholics, with people of other faiths, and with the Historic Black Churches. You will have an opportunity to share and apply your experiences, wisdom, and challenges by engaging with a number of real-life case studies from ministry contexts across the ELCA.
